Consolation
Three figures hold together while everything around them comes apart. Consolation does not repair the collapse; it gives the people inside it something to lean against.
Consolation centers on a small act of care inside a scene that appears to be coming apart. One figure leans toward two others in despair, offering physical support while the surrounding forms fracture, tilt, and fall out of order.
The painting is less interested in rescue than in presence. Nothing around the figures is repaired; the instability remains. What changes is the relationship between them. The consoling gesture becomes a temporary structure, a human counterweight to collapse.
The work continues Soren Grau's interest in figures caught inside systems they cannot fully control. Here, however, the emphasis is not on machinery or authority, but on the fragile usefulness of compassion when explanation and control have failed.
Executed in acrylic on canvas.
